Update of November 9, 2007

Well, we've been toodling along this past month. The book club went well. "Wicked" the book finally got good the last 60-70 pages. I even read the sequel. It was a lot of fun just discussing and exchanging opinions on literature with students in a laid-back way too. I'm game to do that again--maybe in the spring if they organize something.

I'm still giving news quiz hints on facebook. I now have about 75 friends--more than 50% of my students. Quiz scores have improved amongst those who actually use this opportunity to get some steering on what to pay attention to. Too bad they don't all use those opportunities.

I just never seem to update with any frequency. Eleanor and Olivia danced at the Southern Women's Show in October. Other than that, we've been attending lots of Nutcracker rehearsals and being sleep deprived with all the school commitments. Eleanor is on a tough, but good, team this year. They are working her hard. I know it will pay off in the end, but we give up some sleep to get it all done. Amelia is continuing to be very responsible and mature about her work assignments and her father and I are SO proud of her work effort. Olivia is Olivia. She does work occasionally, attempts to fall into "baby of the family" tears when she is caught not doing her school work, that doesn't fly, and eventually she straightens up for at least a little while. Typical Olivia.

Some of the scandal-ridden issues at school have died down now, for the most part. The first playoff game is tonight. If the kids lose, then the coach is gone (finally) and it's all over. If they win, we go another week waiting for resolution. We'll see what happens.

My students have finished almost all of the legislative simulation project. I need to finish grading bills this weekend since progress report grades are due Tuesday.

We are looking forward to a 3-day weekend this weekend in honor of Veteran's Day. We aren't planning anything that is patriotic or related to Veteran's, but I do plan to appreciate and enjoy some downtime, during which I will respect and honor the sacrifices that have given me that opportunity. Thank you Veterans!

Next up--Thanksgiving and then Christmas. Olivia is fine-tuning her Christmas list. I don't know about the other two. Their desires are either for things that are too expensive or too unreasonable at the moment. We'll see how that ends up.
