Picture is from the outside of the ballet school in Novi Sad. It is on "7 Jew Street" and is housed in the former synagogue school in Novi Sad. They apparently had a sizeable Jewish population pre-WWII, but it didn't return. The synagogue is now used by the city as a cultural arts center for music performances.

It was interesting, to say the least, sleeping on the top bunk of a bed again! The top was the only place to get at least a little airflow. We were fed a typical continental breakfast this morning of cold cuts, cheese and thick slabs of bread. Muesli and hot milk was also an option. Then the girls got ready for dance class.
Stevan's great niece Sandra came to walk the girls to the dance school. It is about 10-15 minutes away on foot. I was given a tour of the school by Sandra and then I left. Eleanor says I make her nervous when I watch her dance. The Serbian girls almost immediately brought up going to the beach. We didn't bring bathing suits so off I went to find one for Eleanor. Just like at home, by this point of the summer they are pretty much gone, but I found a couple and got them for her. I then stopped to buy some water and came back--two cold bottles of water for about $.84...I like these prices.
When I asked about laundry facilities, I was told to give them to the ladies in the kitchen and they would do my laundry for me and I just pay them afterward. I didn't ask how much, but I can't imagine it is too much. We are down to the last couple of pairs of underwear though so I guess it doesn't really matter how much it costs at this point! There are no laundromats in site, even though I did bring detergent and dryer sheets.
I am sitting in a courtyard of the dorm tapping this out in the shade listening to 4 very drunk Slovenian boys go on and on. They were here for a huge music festival that occurs in Novi Sad called EXIT. They are supposed to depart today...any time now works for me. They are disturbing the peace I seek.
I was just going to relax here the rest of the day, but it just occurred to me that Eleanor has no money to buy lunch (oversight on my part) so I guess I'll have to head toward McDonald's at lunch time--ugh! I've managed to avoid it so far. I guess I don't have to eat there though--just get some money to her!
...I am sitting on the steps of the synagogue which is next to the ballet school waiting for the girls to come out for lunch. If they are still planning on the Golden Arches, I think I'll just give her some money and head off my own direction. I don't eat there at home so I don't see a reason to do so here! (Update: She ate at McD's; I ate at a restaurant called "Teatar" or Theater--it was good and I ate there 2 or 3 times over the course of 2 weeks.)
Once the Slovenian boys said Ciao this AM, I laid down on a bench in the shade and read and relaxed. It was quite peaceful and not something I ever seem to have time for at home...that was nice. I may attempt to find the art museum this afternoon or I might not. I have 2 weeks here and the city isn't that large.
..Sorry I didn't get this out last night! The battery on my cell phone was low and I couldn't get it to charge. Turns out that my adapter works fine but the circuit was blown in our area of the building. One of the other mothers, who hadn't done her homework, tried to use her hairdryer the first day without a converter--just an adapter. Whoops!
I am charged now and will work on the next installment and post later today.
